Beauty in imperfection: Concrete creates urban industrial chic in the kitchen
With its rough, unfinished look, concrete turns any kitchen into an urban loft space with attitude. Together with its tough-guy scratchproof and heatproof qualities, the trend for a gritty glamour has made concrete the undisputed kitchen material du jour.
Used alone, it leaves scope for combination to create a totally unique look. Together with wood, concrete takes on a contemporary but cosy character, while with glass or metal it comes over as sophisticated and minimalist. Its high weight means that concrete furniture is not suitable everywhere. But industrial concrete chic can still be achieved using just occasional worktops or accessories – or by installing concrete-look panels in wood, ceramic or plastic.
